What is Care & Repair?

Care & Repair in East Dunbartonshire is a free and confidential home-based service designed to assist clients maintain, improve or adapt their homes in order that they can remain at home in comfort and safety, in their own community.


What does Care & Repair offer?

Care & Repair recognise that client's needs differ and cater for this by providing services individually tailored to suit those needs.

When providing services Care & Repair will assign one member of staff as a main point of contact for each client.   Once assigned, the member of staff will continue to be available to advise and assist until all works are satisfactorily completed or sooner if requested by the client.

In providing services Care & Repair promote client choice, respect client privacy and confidentiality, and treat all clients equally with dignity and respect at all times.


Care & Repair services:


Major Works

The Major Works service provides assistance to those clients wishing to carryout larger scaled works to their homes.   Examples of this would be re-roofing, installing new windows, eradicating rot or damp and adapting an existing bathroom to meet the needs of a disabled occupant (Occupational Therapy referral only).

This service can:

  • organise for surveys or drawings to be prepared, if required
  • obtain quotations from contractors of your choice
  • secure funding by apply for grants or loans that may be available for the works
  • inspect completed works
  • ensure that all costs are fully paid
  • approach other agencies who may be able to assist


Small Repairs

The Small Repairs service provides assistance to those clients wishing to have smaller scaled works carried out in their home.   All small repairs are carried out by Care & Repair's own experienced staff members free of charge with clients paying only for materials used.

This service can:

  • source, purchase and deliver required materials
  • replace locks and repair shelves  
  • fit draught excluders, window locks and tack carpets
  • unblock sinks (internal waste pipes only)
  • fit light bulbs, fuses and batteries 
  • rearrange furniture
  • take down and hang curtains 
  • assist in hospital discharge requirements


Home Safety

The Home Safety service provides assistance to those clients wishing to improve personal safety by reducing the risk of accidents or injury within their own home.   Care & Repair's own Home Safety Officer will visit your home, advise you on home safety matters and undertake home safety improvements when requested.   Clients pay for materials only.
 
This service can:

carry out Home Safety Checks that identify potential hazards

provide advice on reducing risks and eliminating hazards

undertake home safety improvements identified

supply and fit smoke detectors and CO2 detectors

arrange for specialist home fire safety and security advice from Strathclyde Fire Service and Strathclyde Police



Domestic Abuse Prevention Scheme

By referral, Care & Repair supply and fit security items to the homes of those clients who live in fear of domestic abuse.   This service can only be accessed through Strathclyde Police and East Dunbartonshire Council's Domestic Abuse team.

This service is available to all clients referred by the above agencies and does not adhere to Care & Repair's qualifying criteria below. 


Advice

The Advice service provides clients with advice on all matters relating to home maintenance, improvement and adaptation.  Advice can be given either by telephone or where requested by clients during a home visit.   Where Care & Repair can refer a client to another organisation better placed to help clients all contact information will be made available.

This service can:

advise on technical construction matters

provide contact details for suitable construction contractors and consultants

provide advice on available funding options e.g. grants and loans

refer to other agencies better placed to help



By invitation, a Care & Repair staff member can arrange to visit your home to discuss any issue related to home maintenance, improvement or adaptation or advise on the most appropriate Care & Repair service to access to reach a solution.

 



























































































































Who qualifies for Care & Repair services?

To qualify you must:

be a resident of East Dunbartonshire

be a homeowner or privately renting tenant

be aged 75 and over or 60 and over with a disability
